Since retiring from the pastoral ministry in 1996 he has traveled across the Mid-south taking his G-rated "southern fried" humor to churches, associations and civic clubs.
He has produced two comedy albums, Live From Laurel, Forty-two Minutes of Laughter and Alive with Laughter, Tall Tales to Tickle the Funny Bone and has written his first-ever book. My Brother Was an Only Child.

Arlis is convinced that "Laughter is the Best Medicine". He says about his comedy albums, "Take two of these and call me in the morning!"

One of Arlis' favorite quotes is by his friend and Kentucky humorist, Carl Hurley, "Laughter is the Gravy on the Biscuit of life!"

Arlis always follows that quote up with one of his own,

"You furnish the Biscuits and I'll bring the Gravy!"
